Gautam Gambhir appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team
Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian national team.
Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed that Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Gambhir, who was a key player in the team when India won the World Cup in 2011, was currently the head coach of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkota won this season’s IPL under his leadership.
He will now take the place of Indian team coach Rahul Dravid. Dravid’s coaching tenure ended after the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
Gautam, who is the opener of Indian cricket, has played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20 international matches for India. In this process, he has scored 4154 runs with 9 centuries and 22 fifties in Test cricket, 5238 runs with 11 centuries and 34 fifties in ODI cricket and 932 runs with 7 fifties in T20.
