Europe’s biggest sporting event, the UEFA Euro Cup 2020, kicks off at midnight today. The Euro 2020, which should have been completed a year ago, was postponed a year later due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There will be a total of 51 games in the month-long competition in different cities of 12 different countries in Europe. Assessing the performance of the team and the ability of the players, we have selected the five main contenders who can win the Euro 2020 title.

1. France : <\/strong>France, the winner of the 2018 World Cup is the strongest contender for the Euro Cup 2020. In almost every position, world-renowned players are with the French national team. After the 2018 World Cup, the defense of France will be in the hands of Varane and Kimpembe who looks weak now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kante, who has just won the Champions League from Chelsea, Tolisso and Paul Pogba are in charge of France’s midfield, and world-class forwards such as Mbappe, Griezmann and Karim Benzema can destroy any country’s defense. France’s strongest point is, its bench is equally excellent.

Players such as Komen, Dembele, Ben Eder, Oliver Giroud and Kurt Zouma remain France’s second choice. If France wins Euro 2020, its head coach Didier Dechamps will be the first player and coach to win the Euro and World Cup.

2. Portugal<\/strong> : Portugal is the defending champion of Euro 2020. Looking at the team, Portugal can be seen as the second contender for Euro 2020. Like France, Portugal has world-renowned players in almost every position. Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, is its main weapon. Despite being 36 years old, Ronaldo’s football skills have not diminished.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandez, Atletico Madrid’s Joe Felix, Liverpool’s Diego Jota, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Sevilla’s Andre Silva are among the world’s best forwards in Portugal. The experience of Ruben Neves of English club Wolves in midfield will be very useful.

Veteran player Pepe is still in the same rhythm in defense and can be threat to the opposition.Rui Patricio, who plays professional football from Wolves, will take charge of Portugal’s goalkeeping. Portugal’s head coach, Fernando Santos, won the Euro title for the first time in 2016, beating France.

3. England <\/strong>: England, full of young talent, could be the third contender for Euro 2020. Players like Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford are some of the most famous and best young players in football and they are in the forward line of England.

Players such as Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish and Declan Rice will take charge of England’s midfield, while Chelsea’s Reese James and Manchester City’s Kyle Walker will play in defense, as well as Ben Chilwell and Ben White.

Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and Everton’s Jordan Pickford will alternate in the role of goalkeeper. England, without a title in international football since the 1968 World Cup, are now in the verge of being the youngest team in history to make history.

4. Belgium <\/strong>: The current Belgian team is seen as the golden team in its football history. The current Belgian team consists of young and experienced players. The Belgian team is full of great players like Kevin de Bryune of Manchester City, Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan and Eden Hazard of Real Madrid. But, Eden Hazard has been plagued by injuries since he left English club Chelsea for Real Madrid. That could be a big blow to Belgium.

If Hazard returns to the old rhythm, it should come as no surprise that Belgium will win the Euros. The Belgian team, led by Roberto Martinez, also has some of the best goalkeepers in the world, such as Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid. Hence, Beligum has got the potential to win Euro 2020.

5. Germany<\/strong> : Four-time World Cup winners Germany can be seen as the fifth contenders for Euro 2020. Germany, who were knocked out of the group stage in 2018 World Cup, have been playing excellent football ever since. Germany has always been a team full of great players.

The German team, led by Joachim Loew, is now full of young players. Experienced forward Thomas Muller has returned to the national team after 3 years. Legend Manuel Neuer will lead the German team.

Likewise Kai Harvetz, Timo Werner, Ikey Gundogan, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sane, Antonio Rudiger are some big names in German squad. If Germany wins the Euro cup it will be a good farewell to coach Joachim Low.

Apart from these five, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, who are unbeaten in 27 consecutive international games, can also be seen as the main contenders for the title in Euro 2020. The opening match of Euro 2020 will be Turkey vs Italy on June 12, 12:45AM(NST). The match will be played at Italy’s Stadio Olimpico.
