Nepal Women Fails to Chase 88 Runs Against Pakistan A

In the first match of the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, the Nepali national women’s cricket team was defeated. Pakistan A defeated Nepal by nine runs despite very poor batting performance.

Nepal made a slow start chasing an 88-run target although not losing a wicket. After the powerplay, they were 16 for no loss, which converted into 32 for two by the halfway. Nepal finished the 20 overs with a total of 78/6. Kabita Kunwar led the way with 20 runs, while Kabita Joshi contributed a triumphant 15 runs. Other batsmen for Nepal were unable to reach double figures. Despite Nepal’s defeat, Kunwar was named Player of the Match for her all-round effort (20 runs and two wickets).

Syeda Aroob Shah and Tuba Hassan each took two wickets for Pakistan A. Umm-e-Hani (4-1-10-1) and Anosha Nasir each took one wicket.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Pakistan A struggled to reach three figures due to a superb bowling showing from Nepal. They were dismissed for 87 in 19.2 overs. Shawaal Zulfiqar led the way with 28 runs, while captain Fatima Sana scored 16 before being struck out as the final batter.

Gull Feroza and Sadaf Shamas each provided 12 and 11 runs. The game was once called off owing to weather.

With a figure of 3-1-6-3, Nepal’s bowler of choice was Indu Barma. She had a chance to record a hat-trick in the 19th over after dismissing two batters in two balls, but Jyoti Pandey was unable to hold on to a diving catch to complete an incredible feat. Nepal also had two wickets each from Kabita Kunwar, Kabita Joshi, and Sita Rana Magar.

The next match will be played on June 15 against India A.
