Sleeping Longer on Weekends and Holidays Will Make You Live Longer

Here’s the best news ever for your long weekend: Sleeping in could help you live longer. Mhm, consider this permission to stay in bed until noon tomorrow and every Saturday after that.

In a study published in the Journal of Sleep Research, researchers found that those who slept around six to seven hours consistently had a lower mortality risk compared to those who slept less than five hours a night.

Sleeping a full seven hours Monday through Friday sounds impossible, right? Well, the study concluded that sleeping in on weekends is crucial to helping your body recover from your weekday schedule.

In fact, the authors found that short weekend sleep was associated with a 52 percent higher morality rate in people under age 65. So, really, sleep in tomorrow! To get this conclusion, researchers studied 43,880 subjects for 13 years, taking into account other factors that might affect mortality risk.
