China’s population declined for the second year in a row

According to the Chinese media, the main reason for the decrease in population is the death due to Covid-19 and the decrease in the birth rate. Currently, the population of China is 140 million. China’s National Bureau of Statistics has reported that China’s population has decreased by 2.8 million since last year. China is the second most populous country in the world and India is the first.
Deaths due to Covid-19 have continued in China since the last two years. In addition, the birth rate has also decreased. According to the Chinese media, these two reasons are considered to be the biggest reason for population decline.
In 2022, 8.5 million people died in China. Compared to last year, the birth rate per thousand has decreased by 6.39 percent. This is the first time such a decline has occurred since the establishment of the Communist regime in China.
