Sheikh Hasina, set to become the PM of Bangladesh
The current Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, is set to become the Prime Minister for the fourth consecutive times.
After Hasina’s party Awami League won 204 seats out of 300 seats in the general election held on Sunday, Hasina has been confirmed as the prime minister. This time voting was held in 299 seats.
With this, Hasina has won the election for the eighth time in a row.Hasina defeated Bangladesh Supreme Party candidate M Nizamuddin Laskar by a margin of more than 249,000 votes in her constituency. Hasina got 249 thousand 965 votes while Nizamuddin got only 469 votes.
Hasina won the election for the first time in 1986.According to the Bangladesh Election Commission, 40 percent of votes have fallen in this election.
Earlier, in the 2018 elections, the voter turnout was 80 percent. This election was boycotted by the opposition parties of the country including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Sheikh Hasina is about to become the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fifth time. She was the Prime Minister from 1996 to 2001. Then in 2009 she became the Prime Minister again. He has been in power continuously since then.
