Resham Chaudhary Pardoned by President
Resham Lal Chaudhary, who was serving life imprisonment in the Tikapur incident, has been released today. On the occasion of Republic Day, Chaudhary was released from prison after gaining amnesty from President Ram Chandra Paudel.
Along with Chaudhary, the remaining prison terms of 482 people, including seven senior persons, were commuted on May 29 in honor of Republic Day. According to the President’s Office, the prison terms of 19 persons, including Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) leader Resham Chaudhary, have been commuted on the proposal of the Council of Ministers.
The cabinet meeting on Sunday resolved to recommend that Chaudhary’s incarceration be commuted. Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair and Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Ranjeeta Shrestha Chaudhary–who is also his wife–reached the jail to welcome him on his release.
Talking to reporters immediately after release Resham Chaudhary has said that the Tikapur incident should again be investigated.
