What will happen now after the split in Congress?
The Nepali Congress has finally split. The establishment faction has expelled General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma and Joint General Secretary Farmullah Mansur from the party for five years as disciplinary action.
After taking action, the establishment party has approached the Election Commission and informed that the special general convention of the Congress was not organized and that action has been taken against the two general secretaries and the joint general secretaries.
On the other hand, the special general convention side has rejected the action taken by the Sanepa office from the closed session hall. Addressing the closed session, General Secretary Gagan Thapa claimed that since they were in the special general convention as per the statute, they were the official Congress and that the party flag and election symbol tree would be with them.
He said that they have already informed the Election Commission about the special general convention and have also submitted the details of the signatures of the representatives present to the commission.
The special convention party is preparing to declare Gagan Thapa as the president today and unanimously elect all central leaders.
