NPL: Magnificent win for Biratnagar Kings against Pokhara Avengers
The Biratnagar Kings have started the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 2 with a record-breaking performance, securing an impressive win over the Pokhara Avengers.
Biratnagar, which improved its own record and scored a huge total of 220 runs, secured a 53-run victory by restricting Pokhara to 167 runs in a day-night match held at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Tuesday.
Biratnagar, who were invited to bat after losing the toss on the third day of the tournament on Tuesday, posted a record total of 220 runs in 20 overs, losing no wickets, thanks to a century partnership between opener Lokesh Bam and number three batsman Martin Guptill.
Both Lokesh and Guptill scored half-centuries as Biratnagar set a record for the highest total in an innings in NPL history. Lokesh scored 72 runs off 48 balls with 1 four and 7 sixes, while Guptill scored 61 runs off 35 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes.
For Biratnagar, who entered the field with high morale after the record total, Pratish GC, Shubham, Captain Sandeep, and Merchant de Lange took 2 wickets each, and Bashir and Surya Tamang took 1 wicket each, restricting Pokhara to 167 runs in 18.5 overs.
For Pokhara, captain Kushal Bhurtel batted aggressively and scored 59 runs, but could not lead the team to victory. Bhurtel hit 5 fours and 4 sixes in 31 balls.
