South Africa beat Australia to win the World Test Championship

South Africa has won the ICC World Test Championship. South Africa won the World Test Championship for the first time, defeating Australia by 5 wickets in the final. Chasing a target of 282 runs set by Australia, South Africa achieved the target on the fourth day for the loss of 5 wickets.

For South Africa, Aiden Markram scored a crucial 136-run century. Captain Temba Bavuma scored 66, while Ryan Rickelton scored 6, Wian Mulder scored 27, and Tristan Stubbs scored 8. Similarly, David Beddingham scored an unbeaten 21 runs. In this Test, Australia, batting first after losing the toss, scored 212 runs, while South Africa scored only 138 runs in the first innings.

Australia, which had taken a significant lead of 74 runs in the first innings, scored 207 runs in the second innings and set South Africa a target of 282 runs. With this win, South Africa has broken its streak of reaching the semi-finals and finals of ICC tournaments without winning a title. This is the first time South Africa has won an ICC tournament since 1998.


South Africa received $3.6 million in prize money for winning the World Test Championship, while runner-up Australia received $2.16 million. The World Test Championship began in 2019. The first final was played in 2021, and in the first World Test Championship, New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets to win the title. Similarly, the second World Test Championship final was held in 2023. That final was won by Australia. India was defeated in both the finals. In the final, Australia defeated India by 209 runs.
