Kathmandu Gorkhas head coach Monty Desai arrives in Nepal

Monty Desai, who has been appointed as the head coach of Kathmandu Gorkhas for the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), has arrived in Nepal. Monty, who is also the former coach of the Nepali national cricket team, arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday afternoon.

He was welcomed at the airport by the club’s CEO, Suraj Singh Thakuri. Coach Desai will now be present with the team at the mini auction to be held on Saturday. He says he is confident that the auction will go well. Monty was Nepal’s coach for 2 years from February 2023.

During this period, Nepal won 11 of 12 matches in World Cup League 2 and directly qualified for the 2023 ODI World Cup qualifiers. Under his coaching, the Nepali cricket team played in the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“I have never been far from Nepal, that’s why I have come to Kathmandu again. This time, I have come with a different responsibility,” Monty told reporters. “Last year, too, I was around the NPL. I have now come here after being offered by Kathmandu Gorkhas. I am very excited to work in a new role.

Gorkhas have retained Karan KC, Bhim Sharkey, Shahab Alam, Dipesh Kandel, Prateek Shrestha, and Rashid Khan for the upcoming season.
