CAN Faces Warning for NPL Ad Breach, Brand Logiq & TCM suspended

The Nepal Advertisement Board has said that it will investigate and take action against the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) for showing surrogate advertisements related to gambling in the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The Advertising Board stated on Monday, saying that advertisements for gambling-related sites through foreign companies were seen in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) organized by CAN from November 30 to December 21, 2024, and decided to investigate and take action.

The Advertising Board meeting approved the advertisement broadcast on Star Sports channel through a foreign company called Twenty First Century Media regarding the NPL games organized from November 30 to December 21, 2024, including the players’ T-shirts with promotion of betting sites.

The board has decided with a warning, saying that despite repeated correspondence with CAN regarding the promotion of betting sites such as 1X-Bat, Wolf-777, and Dafa News on the field and on television broadcasts, CAN has not sent a satisfactory response.

The Advertising Board has warned CAN not to advertise in violation of the law in the future, warning that if the directive is violated, it will be banned from advertising in the coming days.

CAN has not submitted replies to the board’s letters of various dates, and in the letter dated August 11, it has been stated that it could not submit replies to the letters due to busy work. Since the response submitted is not satisfactory, Section 15T of the Advertisement (Regulation) Act, 2076 BS and the Advertisement (Regulation) Rules If the directions of the board are ignored as per Section 11B (1) of 2077, then the advertisement (Regulation) Act will prohibit the advertisement from being made or caused to be made in the future.

Meanwhile, the board has approved the merger of Brand Digital Logic Pvt. Ltd., Lalitpur, and TCM Sports and Marketing Pvt. Ltd. It has been decided to fine both companies Rs 10,000 each and ban all advertising-related activities for three months for engaging in illegal advertising business without being listed on the board.

Brand Digital Logic Pvt. Ltd., Lalitpur, and TCM Sports and Marketing Pvt. Ltd., Tangal, Kathmandu are engaged in the advertising business without being listed on the board as per Section 26 of the Advertisement (Regulation) Act, 2076 BS and Rule 11 of the A.R. Regulations.’

Both agencies will be fined ten thousand rupees each for displaying advertisements that violate the prevailing law, and will be banned from giving or receiving advertisements or information or from publishing or broadcasting advertisements or information for 3 (three) months It has been decided to ban the agency from publishing or broadcasting information and not to list it on the board for that period.

In addition, the Advertising Board has banned both organizations from giving or receiving advertisements or information or from publishing or broadcasting science or information for 3 months (2082/07/20). All advertisers have been requested not to do any kind of advertising business with these companies until November 6, 2024.
