Sabitra Bhandari to play for Wellington Phoenix
Nepal women’s football team captain Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) will play in Australia’s Ninja A-League. She has signed a contract with Wellington Phoenix for the next two seasons.
Wellington, although a New Zealand club, has been playing in Australia’s Ninja A League. The club stated that Sabitra has been an outstanding goalscorer for both club and country, and signing her is a significant step for the team. She scored a total of 9 goals, including a hat-trick, in two consecutive matches in the recent AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.
After scoring over 60 goals in 24 games in the Indian Women’s Super League, Savitra made history by becoming the first Nepali player to play and score in Europe’s top league while playing for French club En Avant Guingamp.
