Paras Khadka announces retirement from international cricket

Former national cricket team captain Paras Khadka has announced his retirement from international cricket. Khadka announced the end of his international career through social media.

Paras last played for the Nepali national team in the ACC Eastern Region T20 tournament held in Thailand in March last year.

Under the captaincy of Paras, Nepal won the title of ICC World Cricket League Division 5 in 2010, Division 4 in 2012, Division 3 in 2013 and Division 3 in 2014. Similarly, under his captaincy, Nepal was able to become the joint winner with UAE in the 2012 ACC Trophy.

The biggest achievement of the most successful captain of the Nepali cricket team, Paras, is to take Nepal to the 2014 T20 World Cup. The Nepali senior team participated in the World Cup for the first and last time. Apart from that, it was a great achievement for Nepal to be recognized as an ODI nation in 2018 under the captaincy of Paras. Under his captaincy, Nepal won its first ODI against the Netherlands in 2018.

Under the captaincy of Paras, Nepal played 27 Twenty20 Internationals in which Nepal won 11 and lost 15. Similarly, he led in 6 ODIs, winning 3 games and losing 3 games.

Paras is Nepal’s leading run-scorer in ODIs and T20 Internationals. He has scored 315 runs in 10 ODIs with 1 century and 1 half century and 799 runs in 33 T20I with 1 century and 4 half centuries. He is also the first Nepali player to score a century in both formats. He scored a century in the ODIs against the UAE in 2019 and in the T20 Internationals against Singapore the same year.

He made his debut for the Nepali national cricket team in the ICC Intercontinental Cup against Malaysia in 2004. He had previously represented the Nepali age group team. After Paras resigned as the captain of the national cricket team in October 2019, Gyanendra Malla has taken over the captaincy of Nepal. Paras, who captained Nepal in 2009, is the longest-serving captain of Nepal.

Paras Khadka will continue to play domestic cricket. He will captain the Biratnagar Warriors in the fourth edition of the Everest Premier League (EPL T20) starting September 25.
