Chasing the target of 163 runs given by Chennai, Punjab achieved the target by losing 3 wickets in 17.5 overs.
Punjab’s Jonny Bairstow top scored with 46 runs off 30 balls for Punjab Kings. Rilee Rossouw was dismissed for 43 and Prabhasimran Singh for 13 while Shashank Singh remained unbeaten for 25 and skipper Sam Curran for 26. Shardul Thakur, Richard Gleeson and Shivam Dubey took 1 wicket each for Chennai.
Earlier, Chennai batted first and scored 162 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Chennai captain Rituraj Gaikwad scored the highest 62 runs off 48 . Ajinkya Rahane 29, Sameer Rizvi 21, Moeen Ali 15 and Mahendra Singh Dhoni were out for 14 runs while Daryl Mitchell remained unbeaten at 1 run.
Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar took 2 wickets each. Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh had 1 wicket each for Punjab Kings.
This is Punjab’s fourth win this season. With 4 wins and 6 losses in 10 matches, Punjab is in the seventh position after gaining 8 points. Similarly, this is Chennai’s fifth defeat in this season. With 5 wins and 5 losses in 10 matches, Chennai is in fourth place with 10 points.
