Nepal to battle with India in SAFF Championship
Nepal is facing India today in SAFF Championship. Nepal had a bad start to the tournament by losing 3-1 against Kuwait in the first match. Likewise, India started victoriously by defeating Pakistan 4-0 in the first match.
A total of 23 matches have been played between Nepal and India so far. India has won 16 matches while Nepal has won only 2 matches. Similarly, 5 games have ended in a draw.
8 countries are participating in this SAFF Championship. SAAF country Sri Lanka didn’t play in this tournament as it is suspended by FIFA. Group A includes India, Kuwait and Pakistan along with Nepal. Similarly, Group B includes Lebanon, Maldives, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The top two countries in both groups will advance to the semi-finals.
Earlier, the 13th edition of SAFF was held in Maldives in 2021. Where Nepal made history by reaching the final for the first time. But they lost to India in the title clash. Nepal has not yet won the SAFF Championship. India has won the title the most 8 times, while Maldives has won 2 times, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have won the title once each.
