Nepali National cricket team leaves for Oman
The Nepali national cricket team has left for Oman to play a triangular one-day international series with Oman and the United States under the World Cup League-2 and before that two one-day internationals against Papua New Guinea.
The Nepali team departed from Muscat Air at 9 am on Tuesday. The players leaving for Oman were virtually bid farewell by CAN on Monday evening.
After reaching Oman, the Nepali team will stay in quarantine for one day during which the team will be tested for Covid-19. If the result is negative, the players will be able to join the practice.
The 17-member Nepali team along with coach Dave Whatmore, team manager Dawood Ansari, technical analyst Raman Siwakoti, physio Vikram Neupane and trainer Rakesh Kashibhai Gohil are in the Oman tour . CAN announced the squad for the tour on Saturday, which also featured Gulshan Jha and Kushal Bhurtel and Asif Sheikh for the first time in ODIs.
Nepal is in the sixth position in the World Cup League-2 table after 2 wins and 2 losses in 4 matches. Nepal still has 32 games to play in the World Cup League-2.
Nepal had earlier played its first series in the World Cup League-2 against Oman and the United States at home in February last year. After that, the World Cup League-2 series to be played by Nepal was postponed due to Covid-19. In that series, Nepal defeated USA in both the games while Nepal lost with Oman in both the games.
Nepal will be able to play in the selection competition of the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India and will also be selected in the World Cup Super League for the next cycle. Failing to be in the top 3 of the World Cup League-2, Nepal will get another chance to reach the World Cup qualifiers in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Under the tour of Oman, Nepal will play two ODIs against Papua New Guinea on September 5 and 8, the second of which will be a day-night match. For the first time, Nepal is going to play one-day international day and night. The triangular series with Oman and the United States will be played from September 13 to 20, the schedule of which has not been made public yet.
