Captain appointed by CAN will not be changed: Pubudu Dasanayake

Newly appointed coach of the Nepali national cricket team Pubudu Dasanayake has said that 30 preliminary players will be called for the global selection. At a press conference organized by the Cricket Association (CAN) on Thursday, Pubudu said that 30 players would be called and the names would be made public this evening or tomorrow morning.

He also said that his focus will be on the practice game. He also informed that the captain appointed by CAN will not be changed. Earlier, CAN had sacked captain Gyanendra Malla and vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee. After that, Sandeep Lamichhane has been given the responsibility of captain by CAN. “The captain will not change. Because it’s all CAN’s jurisdiction, “said Pubudu.

Dasanayake, who was appointed to the vacant post after then head coach Dave Whatmore resigned in August, has arrived in Nepal to handle the training. The board meeting of CAN on 25 December approved Pubudu as the head coach.

Earlier, Nepal had played in Pubudu’s coaching from 2011 to 2015. When Nepal won the Division Four and Three titles, Pubudu took charge of the Nepali team.
