NSJF Pulsar Sports awards : Rohit Poudel & Arika Gurung player of the year

Cricket’s Rohit Kumar Paudel and Karate’s Arika Gurung have been declared as NSJF Pulsar Sports Award 2080 sportsmen of the year.

In a program organized by Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) on Friday, Erica was declared the best player of the year for women and Rohit for men.

In the awards held at the Nepal Pragya Foundation, Erika, the silver medalist in the 19th Asian Games, beat Sabitra Bhandari of football, Rubina Chhetri of cricket, Santoshi Shrestha of athletics and Rajvanshi of Kabaddi Menu.

Rohit of men’s cricket is behind Dipendra Singh Airee of cricket, Mohammed Sekhu Alam of karate, Anant Tamang of football and SubashTamang of golf. In the previous edition, the winners were announced from the top three nominations.

This time only the top five nominations are included. Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary presented the award to Erika. Sportsperson of the year Erika and Rohit received a Pulsar NS 200 motorbike. Volleyball’s Kavita Bhatt won the People’s Choice Award.

Kabita is the winner on the basis of Esewa’s voting, forum member’s vote, Facebook like and head coach’s vote. Kavita got the highest number of votes with 56 percent.

Kabaddi’s Manmati Bista, Football’s Preeti Rai, Rugby’s Shriram Shrestha and Cricket’s Gulsan Jha were nominated for this award.

People’s Choice winner Kavita won a Pulsar NS 400 motorcycle. Jeevanram Shrestha, President of Nepal Olympic Committee, presented the award to him. Kushal Shrestha of Karate was declared the best coach of the year. Kushal, who won this award, also got a Pulsar NS 200 motorbike.

The award was given to him by Yuvraj Shrestha, Managing Director of Plaza Group of Hotel. Under Kushal’s training, Nepal won one bronze medal in the 19th Asian Games and 10th World Karate Championship in Indonesia (one gold, three silver and five bronze medals). His training included medals in seven Asian Karate Championships (29 gold, 25 silver and seven bronze) and US Open Karate Championship (one gold and one silver).

Coach Kushal beat Kabiraj Negi Lama (Para Taekwondo), Kushal Shrestha (Karate), Monty Desai (Cricket), Parvati Rai (Kabaddi) and Sanjay Marhajan (Weightlifting). Hemant Pal of weightlifting was declared the Youth Player of the Year. Hemant received a Pulsar NS 200 motorcycle along with the award. Bagmati Province Youth and Sports Minister Meenkrishna Maharjan presented the award to him.

Hemant won the award beating Arjun Kumal (Cricket), Hemantpal (Weightlifting), Preeti Rai (Football), Sujan Gadal (Table Tennis) and Sunira Thapa (Tennis). Hemant Pal, 16, is a three-time bronze medalist at the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships in Noida, India.

He brought Nepali weightlifting a medal at the Asian level after 38 years. Palesha Govardhan honored with NSJF Para Athlete Award. Palesha was presented with the award by National Sports Council (Rakhep) Member Secretary Tanklal Ghising. Palesha is the first successful athlete to win a bronze medal for Nepal in the 4th Para Asian Games.

The Life Time Achievement Award was received by former President of Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) Vinayraj Pandey. Durganath Subedi, President of Nepal Sports Journalist Forum and General Secretary Prajwal Oli presented the award to Pandey.

Volleyball coach Kumar Rai was honored with a special award. He has been active in volleyball coaching for over two decades. Coach Rai AIPS Asia President Hee Dong Jung presented the award. The women’s kabaddi team, which won the bronze medal for Nepal in the 19th Asian Games, received the team of the year award. Along with Life Time Achievement Award,

Special Award and Para Athletic Award, Janahi received a prize of Rs. The Asian Sports Journalist Award has been presented to AIPS Asia President Hee Dong Jung. South Korean journalist Hee Dong, Brand Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd presented the award.

Out of the total 10 categories, except for the Asian Sports Journalist Award winners, the winners of 8 categories will get sports insurance for one year from United Azod Insurance. In this event, journalists from 6 countries including Durganath Subedi, president of Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF), received AIPS Asia Legends Award. Abdullah Ibrahim of UAE, Ahmad Khawari Isa of Malaysia, Saba Naikan of India, Saleh Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia and Mahmud Hussain Khan of Bangladesh received this award.
