Scotland’s historic World Cup victory after 36 years

Scotland registered their first win in 36 years at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, defeating Haiti 1-0 in a Group C match on Saturday. Scotland’s only goal in the 28th minute was scored by John McGinn, who fired a shot into the net after Che Adams’ shot deflected off goalkeeper Johnny Placide.

Scotland, playing in their first World Cup since 1998, last won the World Cup in 1990, defeating Sweden 2-1. The team has not won a World Cup since then. Earlier on Saturday, Scotland moved to the top of the group after the strong teams of the group, Brazil and Morocco, drew 1-1.

Haiti created a few chances to equalize in the second half. In the 74th minute, Wilson Isidore failed to capitalize on a pass from Ruben Providence. In the 84th minute, Franziska Pierrot’s header also went wide of the left post.

Scotland will now face Morocco on June 20 and Brazil on June 25. Similarly, Haiti will face Brazil on June 20 and Morocco on June 25.
