IPL : Mumbai Indians becomes first to get eliminate
In this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians has become the first team to be eliminated without reaching the playoffs. Mumbai have won only 4 matches in 12 matches this season.
Mumbai, which is at the ninth position in the points table, is now out of the playoff race with only 2 matches left to play.
In the points table, Kolkata and Rajasthan currently have 16 points each and are on the first and second positions respectively. Similarly, Sunrisers Hyderabad have 14 points in 12 matches and are in the third position. Similarly, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have 12 points each and are placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Chennai has played 11 matches while Delhi-Lucknow has played 12 matches each.
Mumbai’s net run rate is also very low. Even if they win the remaining two games, 12 points will not be enough for Mumbai to qualify for the playoffs. Mumbai last won their fifth IPL trophy in 2020.
Since then, Mumbai have made it to the playoffs only in 2023 in the last four seasons. In this season, after making Hardik Pandey the captain of Mumbai, it was said in various reports that the team was not united and he did not have the support of the rest of the players.
