David Warner to play NPL for Kathmandu Gorkhas

Australian star cricketer David Warner is set to come to Nepal to play in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) for Kathmandu Gorkhas.

Kathmandu Gorkhas announced through social media that they have signed Warner. He is the biggest foreign player to have participated in the NPL so far. Earlier, Australian cricketing organization Seam Strike had also posted that Warner would be playing in the NPL. Warner had liked that post as well.

Similarly, based on a hint posted by Kathmandu Gorkhas, there were indications that Warner was the player being referred to, and Onlinekhabar had previously published a report about it.

“David Warner was not brought in through a one-night effort. There had been discussions for months, and it took months to get everyone involved on the same page, with patience and confidence. But the possibility of a player of his stature representing Kathmandu and playing at the TU ground made every effort worthwhile,” said Anubhav Swar Sirohiya, Executive Director of Kathmandu Gorkhas.

The 39-year-old Warner has won all three of Australia’s major international titles two ODI World Cups, one T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship.

Warner won the ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2023, the T20 World Cup in 2021, and the World Test Championship in 2023.

He is also one of the Australian players to have scored centuries in all three formats of international cricket. In 110 T20I matches, Warner has scored more than 3,200 runs, including one century.

Overall, in T20 cricket, Warner has scored more than 14,000 runs in 439 matches, including 10 centuries and 118 half-centuries.

He has played in several major T20 leagues around the world, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), England’s The Hundred, Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Vitality Blast.
