Asian Games: Arika Gurung lost in bronze medal match
Karate player Arika Gurung has missed out on a medal at the 20th Asian Games, currently underway in Nagoya, Japan.
Erika’s medal hopes ended after she suffered an 8–7 defeat to Saudi Arabia’s Dina Ahmed in the bronze-medal bout. At the previous Asian Games, Erika had won a silver medal.
Earlier, Erika was narrowly defeated 2–1 by her familiar rival, Kazakhstan’s Sofya Berultseva, in the semifinal.
Prior to that, competing in the over-68kg weight category, Erika secured her place in the semifinal with a comfortable 7–1 victory over Jordan’s Yara Nasir.
In other bronze-medal bouts held today, Nepalese karate kumite players Rakesh Manandhar and Min Bahadur Tamang also suffered defeats.
