Australia beat New Zealand to lift their first T20 World Cup
Australia were crowned champions as they beat New Zealand by 8 wickets. Mitchell Marsh was the man of the match for his unbeaten 75. This was the first time that Australia won a T20 world cup. New Zealand didn’t get off to very good start.
Daryll Mitchell, the hero of the semifinals was outdone by slower ball from Hazelwood and the Kiwis could only score 37 runs in the powerplay. Williamson was New Zealand’s top scorer with 85 of 48. He scored 22 runs in Mitchell Starc’s over as they finished with 172 for 4. Chasing a target of 173 skipper Aaron Finch fell early, trying to reverse the pressure on Trent Boult and getting caught in the deep, it was the same approach that persisted even after.
Mitchell Marsh pulled the first ball he faced for a six, and followed it up with back-to-back boundaries against Adam Milne. Australia looked to be in control once Mitchell Marsh got set. Boult got the breakthrough by getting Warner bowled in the 13th over but Australia’s aggressive approach was relentless, as Glenn Maxwell walked in.
He too finished with an 18-ball 28 to put on an unbeaten 66-run stand with Marsh. That made sure Australia get their hands on the T20 world cup trophy.
