Asian Games : Nepal’s winning start in cricket, Nepal beats Afghanistan
Nepal made a winning start in the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games, defeating Afghanistan by 5 wickets in their match on Friday.
Chasing a target of 103 runs set by Afghanistan, Nepal reached the target in 17.2 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. In Nepal’s victory, Sundeep Jora top-scored with 34 runs, while Rohit Paudel contributed an unbeaten 33. Captain Dipendra Singh Airee chipped in with 15 runs.
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Afghanistan posted 102 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Faisal Khan Ahmadzai and Najibullah Zadran each scored 30 runs for Afghanistan, while Nangeyalia Kharote remained unbeaten on 17.
For Nepal, bowler Kushal Bhurtel claimed 4 wickets, while Lalit Rajbanshi took 3 wickets. Nepal is now scheduled to play against Japan on Saturday.
